Safety at this age
Rear-facing car seat in back seat only, properly installed. Never leave baby unattended in car, on bed, or near water. Back sleeping position emphasized. No smoking near baby; smokers must change shirts and wash hands before handling. Never hit or shake baby; use safe crib if needing a break. Create emergency preparedness plan. Frequent handwashing; avoid crowds due to immature immune system.
Guidance for this age
Development: Awake periods support socialization, motor skills, and bonding interactions. Parental wellness: Monitor for persistent sadness beyond normal "baby blues"; both parents may feel overwhelmed. Sibling time: Maintain one-on-one attention with other children.
Feeding
Breastmilk or formula recommended (parent choice). Breastfed babies typically feed every 2-3 hours, 5-10 minutes per side. Monitor adequate intake via weight gain and 6-8 daily diapers. Bottle-fed infants receive 2-3 ounces every 2-3 hours initially. Never prop bottles. Observe diet for food intolerances affecting baby. WIC and lactation support available.
