Screenings
Anemia surveillance. Fluoride varnish application.
Safety at this age
Properly installed, rear-facing car seat in back seat only; smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in home; escape routes planned for upper floors; never leave child unattended; water safety with supervision; sunscreen and heat protection; monitor pet interactions; keep Poison Control number accessible (1-800-222-1222).
Guidance for this age
Limit choices to two objects; use simple, concrete language; maintain firm tone when correcting behavior; remove child from volatile situations; establish routines for household calm; continue one nap daily with approximately 12 hours nighttime sleep; avoid social media, computers, and iPads unless necessary; encourage interactive activities; if bottle-feeding at night, use water only.
Feeding
Continue breast or bottle feeding; prioritize solids and meals; support child's self-feeding preference; ensure nutritious foods rather than empty calories; encourage sippy cup use for water; consider weaning timing based on parental comfort; never prop bottles; hold baby during feeding for bonding.
