ADHD/ADD Evaluations

Children with ADHD have neurological differences, including slower brain maturation in certain areas and imbalances in neural networks and neurotransmitters, the chemicals that nerves use to communicate. The condition affects the brain regions responsible for self-regulation, organization, working memory, problem-solving, reasoning, and time perception.

Inattention symptoms: cannot concentrate at school or play; difficulty organizing tasks; avoidance of mentally demanding work; losing important items; forgetting homework and chores. Hyperactivity and impulsivity symptoms: fidgeting or leaving seat during class; inappropriate running or climbing; excessive talking and interrupting; difficulty waiting turns; acting and speaking impulsively. Working memory problems can affect the ability to hold multiple pieces of information for planning and coordination.

To evaluate and diagnose ADHD, our professional team use tools such as a checklist of symptoms, talking with parents and children about their challenges, and questionnaires completed by parents and teachers. Your child also has a thorough physical exam to be sure another problem is not the cause of their symptoms. The pediatrician prescribes treatment with regular follow-up appointments to monitor progress, and may recommend conventional and/or holistic treatments including medication, dietary changes, and behavioral support.
