Book the back-to-school physical in July
Booking early beats the late-summer rush, gives you better appointment times and leaves room for follow-up. What the visit covers and what to bring.

From the practice blog

July is the ideal time to schedule your child's back-to-school physical. Booking early helps you avoid the late-summer rush when offices are busiest, gives you more flexibility on appointment times, and leaves ample room for any follow-up care or testing the exam identifies. Catching issues early — vision problems, scoliosis — can make a real difference to a child's wellbeing and school year.
If your child participates in sports, mention it when you schedule: a sports physical is often combined with the back-to-school visit and may be required by their school or programme.
What to expect during the visit
Medical history review — past illnesses, allergies, and family health history.
Vital signs — height, weight, blood pressure and pulse.
Physical exam — heart, lungs, ears, eyes, nose, throat and musculoskeletal system.
Vision and hearing screening — simple tests that catch changes affecting schoolwork.
Immunizations — a review of records, with any needed vaccines administered.
Sports readiness — fitness assessment if your child plays sports.
Mental-health screening where appropriate.
Why it matters
Potential health issues are identified early, when intervention is easiest.
Most schools require proof of a recent physical before classes or sports.
It is a chance for guidance on nutrition, exercise and healthy habits.
What to bring
Updated vaccine records.
Any school or sports forms that need completing.
A list of current medications.
