Movement, a media plan, and a healthier school year
A family media plan, daily physical activity, and an early back-to-school physical: three habits that set up the year ahead.

From the practice blog

Media is everywhere, and managing it all is hard. A Family Media Plan helps you set the media priorities that matter most to your household — and pairing it with regular physical activity is one of the best things you can do for your child's mental health.
Make a family media plan
Since media habits differ in every household, the plan is customisable — make a full plan, or choose just the parts that matter most. Revisit it at the start of each school year and over summer and holiday breaks. A good plan includes a list of media priorities to choose from, practical tips to make it work, and the option to save, print, and revise as your family changes.
What the research shows
Regular exercise offers significant mental-health benefits for children — with or without existing mental-health conditions. Even low-to-moderate activity like walking helps.
Improved mood, through the release of endorphins.
Reduced anxiety and depression.
Better attention, memory and processing speed — particularly helpful for children with ADHD.
Better classroom behavior and academic performance.
Higher self-esteem, confidence and social skills, especially through team activities.
Lower long-term risk of developing anxiety and depression with higher physical fitness.
What parents can do
Make it fun — let children pick activities they enjoy.
Be an active role model, and make it a family affair: walks, active games, nature trails.
Look for after-school activities, teams and community programmes.
Start small and be consistent — short periods of activity still count.
Don't forget the back-to-school physical
July is the ideal time to book, before the late-summer rush. Scheduling early gives you flexibility on appointment times and leaves room for any follow-up care the exam identifies. If your child plays sports, mention it when you book — a sports physical is often combined with the back-to-school visit.
